Our purpose is to provide award winning, industry driven instruction to enhance performance, teamwork and corporate competitiveness. Our programs target entrepreneurs and professionals who have career experience, from administrative support to management.

Galveston College offers a variety of services that include needs analysis and customized training to optimize the skills of your workforce. We strive to offer cost effective training to help you address your individual and corporate needs.  Our staff can assist you in finding funding to help with these training costs for your institution, or your career advancement.

Do you need to update your staff’s skills?

Let our workforce development team create a customized training program that fits the needs of your organization and your schedule. We offer flexibility to schedule courses at your convenience and at your pace. The high-quality training experience of our trainers and professionals in the field will provide your company with tools that offer solutions to meet your goals.

On a budget? Our programs are competitively priced to bring you quality training for your employees. Our workforce development team also works with the State of Texas to provide funding dollars for eligible companies. Grants are available for small and medium size businesses to help with the cost of upgrading the skills of current workers or preparing newly hired employees specific to job requirements.

Are you Interested in a training grant?

The Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) offers Texas businesses two different options in training grants.

Skills Development Fund (SDF)

Grants are available to businesses with over 100 employees to cover their company’s training needs. The SDF grant targets businesses that require technical and soft skills training. Multiple companies in the same industry can apply together as a consortium with separate training budgets. Here are some quick FAQ’s about SDF grants:

  • Targeted to businesses without a restriction on the number employees.
  • Grants are 1-year in length from award date.
  • Both technical and non-technical training can be included in the grant.
  • Only full-time employees are eligible to receive training.
  • Training funding is limited to $1,420 per course for each current employee. An employee may take multiple courses that total more than $1,420.
  • Training can be facilitated by Galveston College Continuing Education Department, 3rd party Vendors, or by internal company employees.
  • Training will be customized to meet the specific needs of the client.
  • Training budget is limited to $500,000.

Skills for Small Business (SSB)

Grants are also available to smaller businesses to cover their training needs as well. SB grants are targeted to businesses that employ less than 100 full-time employees. Here are some quick FAQ’s about SB grants:

  • Targeted to businesses with under 100 employees.
  • Grants are 1-year in length from award date.
  • Both technical and non-technical training can be included in the grant.
  • Only full-time employees are eligible to receive training.
  • Training funding is limited to $725 for each current employee and $1,450 for each new employee (hired no more than 90 days before award date).
  • All training must be provide by a public community or technical college or the Texas Engineering Extension Service(TEEX). No third-party vendor training is allowed.

Registrations must be completed 1 week prior to classes starting. Students can register online, by email or in- person.
