The Admissions and Records Office certifies eligibility to participate in commencement exercises.

General graduation requirements can be found in the Graduation section of the Galveston College Catalog.  Additional program requirements for graduation can be found under the Degree Plans and Programs of Study section of the catalog.

All students are strongly encouraged to visit with an advisor prior to applying for graduation to ensure all graduation requirements have been met.

Apply Now for for Spring 2021 Commencement

Galveston College students who plan to graduate in spring 2021 can apply now in Admissions and Records by visiting their whitecaps portal at whitecaps.gc.edu.
General graduation requirements can be found in the Graduation section of the Galveston College catalog. Additional program requirements for graduation can be found under the Degree Plans and Programs of Study section of the catalog.
In addition to general course requirements, students must also meet the following requirements to be eligible to graduate from Galveston College:
  • Grade-point average must be 2.00 or higher.
  • At least 25 percent of certificate/degree requirements must be completed in residence at Galveston College.
In addition, any outstanding financial or other obligations to Galveston College will prevent the student from receiving a copy of his/her diploma.
All students are strongly encouraged to visit with an advisor in the Counseling and Advising Center prior to applying for graduation to ensure all graduation requirements have been met. To make an appointment, contact advising@gc.edu. In-person, telephone and email appointments are available.

2021 Commencement Ceremony Information

Please carefully review the information and schedule below regarding graduation.

GRADUATION DAY – May 14, 2021

 7:30 PM – Commencement Ceremony

Galveston College will celebrate its 2021 Commencement Ceremony virtually, beginning Friday, May 14, at 7:30  p.m.

“We are working to make the best of an ever-changing situation, and we promise to make this year’s virtual ceremony an event to remember,” said Andrea Wiste, assistant director of admissions and coordinator of the commencement ceremony.

Graduating students have received a text link to the Full Measure website to submit their photo, message and name pronunciation.

The virtual ceremony will launch at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, May 14, and will include a brief program and a slideshow featuring individual graduates.

A link will be made available to graduates, their family members and friends, and the general public on the Galveston College website and social media.

Additional Graduation Requirements

In addition to general course requirements, students must also meet the following requirements to be eligible to graduate from Galveston College:

  • GPA must be 2.00 or higher

Commencement Ceremony

Galveston College offers one formal commencement exercise held at the end of the spring semester. All graduating students are encouraged to participate in the ceremony. Please check the Galveston College website as commencement approaches for ceremony details.

Graduation with Honors

Students who are graduating with an Associate degree (A.A., A.S., or A.A.S), who have at least 24 semester hours in residence, who have completed at least two semesters at Galveston College, and who have a grade point average of at least 3.5 (on a 4.0 scale) on all work attempted will graduate cum laude (with honors).

Students who are graduating with an Associate degree, who have at least 24 semester hours in residence, who have completed at least two semesters at Galveston College, and who have a grade point average of at least 3.75 (on a 4.0 scale) on all work attempted will graduate magna cum laude (with high honors).

Students who are graduating with an Associate degree, who have at least 24 semester hours in residence, who have completed at least two semesters at Galveston College, and who have a grade point average of at least 3.9 (on a 4.0 scale) on all work attempted will graduate summa cum laude (with highest honors).

All honor graduates wear specially colored tassels at the commencement ceremony.  These tassels will be provided to the student at no charge the day of the ceremony, prior to commencement.
