Application Instructions:

Please read carefully and follow all instructions:
  • 1. If you are not currently a Galveston College student, you must apply for admission to Galveston College following the guidelines in the General Catalog. Along with the application to the College, submit Official Transcripts from all universities and colleges you have attended to the Office of Admissions, 4015 Avenue Q. Galveston, Texas 77550.

  • The Galveston College application is separate from the one required by the Associate Degree Nursing Program (ADN). Applicants will be considered for admission for the Nursing Department after students are admitted to Galveston College.
  • 2. Submit the attached application for admission to the Department of Nursing in the Regents Hall of Galveston College by February 13, 2020. This application is formatted for download from the Nursing Department webpage and completion on your computer (except for your signature). Once completed, print, sign, and submit the application. Hard copy applications are also available in the Nursing Department.

  • 3. Obtain a clear background check. Any ADN applicant who has been arrested or convicted of a crime, or treated for certain mental illnesses or chemical dependency (see inclusive list below) must petition the Texas Board of Nursing (TBON) for a Declaratory Order concerning their eligibility to take the licensure exam upon graduation from the program. A list of applicant names will be sent to the TBON. You will be sent instructions by the TBON to schedule an appointment for fingerprinting. Once your fingerprints and background check have been cleared you will receive a BLUE CARD from TBON. You must bring this card to the Department of Nursing where a copy will be made and the original will be returned to you.
  • If you answer yes to any of the following questions you MUST do the Petition for Declaratory Order Here.

  • FOR ANY CRIMINAL OFFENSE, INCLUDING THOSE PENDING APPEAL, HAVE YOU:
    • • Been arrested and have a pending criminal change?
    • • Been convicted of a misdemeanor?
    • • Been convicted of a felony?
    • • Pled nolo contendere, no contest, or guilty?
    • • Received deferred adjudication?
    • • Been placed on community supervision or court-ordered probation, whether or not adjudicated guilty?
    • • Been sentenced to serve jail or prison time? Court ordered confinement?
    • • Been granted pre-trial diversion?
    • • Been arrested or have any pending criminal charges?
    • • Been cited or charged with any violation of the law?
    • • Been subject of a court-martial: Article 15 violation: or received any form of military judgment/punishment/action?
    • • Are you currently the target or subject of a grand jury or government agency investigation?
    • • Has ANY licensing authority refused to issue a license or ever revoked, annulled, canceled, accepted surrender of, suspended, placed on probation, refused to renew a professional license, certificate, or multi-state privilege held by you now or previously, or ever fined, censured, reprimanded or otherwise disciplined you?
    • • Within the past five (5) years have you been addicted to and/or treated for the use of alcohol or any other drug?
    • • Within the past five (5) years have you been diagnosed with, treated, or hospitalized for schizophrenia, and/or psychotic disorders, bipolar disorder, paranoid personality disorder, antisocial personality disorder, or borderline personality disorder which impaired or does impair your behavior, judgement, or ability to function in school or work?

    The Petition for Declaratory Order may take several months, so begin work on this issue immediately if it applies to you. Once you receive the official letter of clearance from the Board of Nursing, you MUST bring the letter to the Nursing Department and we will make a copy for your permanent file and return the original to you.

    • The application for admission will be evaluated on the following basis:

    • A. Grade point average of 2.5 or > for science courses: BIOL 2401, 2402 and 2421. Science and math courses must be within 5 years of program start (this includes the TSI). No grade less than a “C” is acceptable.

    • B. Grade point average of 2.5 or > for all prerequisite courses: BIOL 2401, HPRS 1206 Essentials of Medical Terminology, and Math 0308 or higher OR TSI 350 or above. No grade less than a “C” is acceptable.

    • C. Overall grade point average must be 2.7 All grades for the past ten years are part of the overall GPA.

    • D. TEAS Entrance Exam: Minimum of 62 cumulative score on the TEAS Exam. Visit www.atitesting.com for more information. Please note, the exam MUST be taken prior to the application deadline and may only be taken twice per admission period (Sept 13-Feb 13). Beginning September 15 2018 ALL APPLICANTS SHALL BE required to TAKE the NEW TEAS Exam.

    • E. Admission criteria are listed on the Galveston College website in the nursing section and in the General Catalog.

    • F. The number of applicants admitted to the Nursing Program is based on the faculty and space availability.

    • All Sciences and Math courses must be taken within five years of program entry.

    • No grade lower than a “C” is accepted.
    • RNSG 1215 Health Assessment and RNSG 1301 Pharmacology are co-requisites but can be taken within 24 months of program entry and are good for two (2) years. Pre-requisite courses must be completed prior to admission into these two courses. (See Catalog)
