Computer and Network Administration

Degree Plan

Computer and Network Administration classes are offered consecutively throughout the course of the program. Students may choose to complete up to three levels of certification and/or an Associate of Applied Science degree.

Course Description
The Computer and Network Administration program at Galveston College is designed to provide you with an understanding of the principles of information technology, experience with techniques of information technology, and competence in the application of computer information systems. Students may pursue an occupational certificate, certificate of technology or Associate of Applied Science degree.

In the network administration Cisco specialty, emphasis is on the design, implementation and administration of local and wide area routed networks in business and industry. Students learn to administer and troubleshoot Cisco networking equipment and networking infrastructure. The Cisco courses can lead to the certifications of Cisco Certified Entry Networking Technician (CCENT) and Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA).

Students also learn to install, maintain, repair, replace and upgrade desktop computers. This program prepares students for industry certifications such as COMPTIA A+, COMPTIA Network+ and Microsoft Technology Associate (MTA).   The Microsoft network administration specialty is designed to provide students with basic skills needed to work as a Microsoft computer network service technician.

Employment of network and computer systems administrators in the region is projected to grow 19 to 36 percent from 2014 to 2024. Demand for information technology workers is high and should continue to grow as firms invest in newer, faster technology and mobile networks.

Take 61st Street exit and turn right at stop light. Travel approximately one mile to Seawall Blvd. Turn left on to Seawall. Proceed down Seawall to 39th Street. (Gaido’s Restaurant is at corner of 39th and Seawall). Turn left on 39th and travel north to Avenue Q. Turn left at 39th and Avenue Q and proceed one block to Main Campus. Main Campus parking is available on Avenue Q, Avenue R and satellite parking at 39th and Avenue Q.

Traveling south on I-45
Take Exit 1B toward 71st St. Merge onto frontage road/Broadway St. and travel approximately five blocks to the first stop sign. At the stop sign, turn left onto 71st St. Take the first left onto frontage road/Broadway St and continue on the frontage road for approximately five blocks to the Applied Technology Center campus.
From GC Main Campus
Travel west on Avenue Q toward 45th St. Turn right at 45th St. and proceed to the stop light on Broadway. Turn left onto Broadway and travel approximately one mile. Continue onto I-45 North to Exit 1C. Take Exit 1C and merge onto the frontage road/Broadway St. The Applied Technology Center will be on the right.
