Electrical Helper: New classes start every 8-10 weeks!

Our Quickstart+ Electrical Helper program will include the following course, taught in a mixture of online and face-2-face, skills learning for 8 weeks, and a total of 200 Contact hours.

• Introduction to Electrical Safety and Tools (ELPT 1021)

Upon successful completion, students will earn the NCCER Core Credential.

• Basic Electrical Theory (ELPT 1011)

• Electrical Code (ELPT 1001)

• OSHA 10 Construction (OSHT 1003)

– Students will earn their OSHA -10 construction safety certification upon successful completion

• Professional Behaviors (BUSG 1012)

Included in the training

• Job Placement Assistance: Free

• Career Guidance: Free

• Cost: $0 for those accepted into program

Classrooms sets of textbooks and tools are provided. Students must sign a commitment letter and purchase their own steel toe boots and PPE.

Funding source:  Texas Workforce Commission

An individual applying to the Quickstart + Program must:

• Be 18 years of age or older.

Must be eligible to work and provide a Social Security number or ITN# 

• Present proof of age, such as driver license or birth certificate.

• Be a United States citizen or certified to work in the United States. A Social Security card or original I-9 documentation is required.

• If male, you must meet the Selective Service registration requirement. Most males have already registered and can print out the registration verification form by visiting: https://www.sss.gov/Home/Verification.

• Must have a working computer and internet access.

• Must have Steel Toe boots and proper PPE.

Pipefitter Helper: Earn this OSA Certificate in just 16 weeks!

This course follows the curriculum for NCCER Pipefitting Core and Level 1 and covers the mathematical operations necessary to calculate laying lengths of pipe fittings for fabrication, identification and use of hand tools and power tools, as well as identification of pipe, pipe fittings, flanges, and fasteners used in the trade. Students who successfully complete this training will receive NCCER credentials, job placement assistance, and be able to work as a pipefitter’s helper. The average wages are currently $18 to $24 per hour in the Houston Galveston area.

For Pipefitter Helper, please follow with,” Classes will meet Monday thru Thursday from 6:00 to 9:30 at the Applied Technology Center Campus at 7626 Broadway.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS!

  • Must be a legal resident living on Galveston Island
  • Must be unemployed, or recently laid off
  • Must be eligible to work and provide a Social Security number or ITN#
  • Relationship or referral from other community partners for support services if needed. (i.e.  Galveston Urban Ministries, Galveston Housing Authority, Restorative Justice)

QUICK START HVAC HELPER PROGRAM Our Quickstart+ HVAC Helper program will include the following course, taught in a mixture of online and face-2-face, skills learning for 8 weeks, and a total of 200 Contact hours.

• Basic Electrical for HVAC (HART 1001)
• Refrigeration Principles (HART 1007)
• OSHA 10 Construction (OSHT 1003)
– Students will earn their OSHA -10 construction safety certification upon successful completion
• Professional Behaviors (BUSG 1012)
