Quickstart+ Programs

The first step to learning a new trade could be free!

Next Quickstart class begins

Thanks to a grant from the Texas Workforce Commission, Galveston College is able to offer a new Quickstart + program designed to help people learn foundational skills in the fast-growing HVAC and Electrical industries. The hybrid program runs for 8 weeks, and you will be presented with the basics of a trade including safety procedures, proper tool usage, regulations, codes and more. This program is designed for people to learn the basics of a trade and start making money right away.

Why is there a need?

High demand exists for Electrical and HVAC helpers. These professions rank among the fastest-growing trades. They provide stable, long-term employment with excellent opportunities for salary growth.

The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics has predicted 14% growth in the need for electricians and HVAC technicians between 2014 and 2024. Each industry is adding tens of thousands of jobs – much faster than the average for all industries.

Wages for skilled workers average between $45,000 and $50,000 per year. The most experienced and hardest working people can make more than $70,000 per year. Of course, beginners make less; helpers in these trades average about $30,000 per year but can advance quickly. Galveston College provides hands-on training for real-world opportunities such as these.
