Diesel Engine Testing & Repair Certificate

This Occupational Skills Award certificate program is comprised of two levels and provides students seeking a career in diesel technology the skills necessary to successfully enter the workforce. Students explore the use of engine measuring tools, and the principles of operations for major engine components. This certificate program is comprised of two levels and should provide students seeking a career in diesel technology with the skills necessary to successfully enter the workforce. Upon successful completion students should be prepared to take the ASE test of Diesel Engines. A class set of textbooks and individual workbooks are included in the tuition. Students must wear long sleeve shirts and pants in the shop. High School Diploma or GED is required. Classes are taught at the Ball High Automotive Center.

Level 1

An introduction to testing and repairing diesel engines including related systems and specialized tools. Topics will include shop and personal safety, explore use of engine measuring tools, and investigate major engine components and principles of operation. Diesel engine cooling systems, air intake and exhaust systems, turbo-chargers and diesel engine emissions are reviewed. Basic diesel engine troubleshooting and preventative maintenance are addressed.  This course is offered in the fall semester and is eligible for a payment plan.  Additional funding sources may be available for qualified students.

 

Level 2

Troubleshooting with virtual equipment is explored in this course. Student’s must take Diesel Level 1 or have prior experience working with diesel motors prior to enrollment. Skills from Level 1 are expanded to include diagnostics. Topics presented are how to identify, inspect, evaluate, disassemble and reassemble engine parts and help prepare for the ASC certification test.  This course is offered in the spring semester and is eligible for a payment plan.  Additional funding sources may be available for qualified students.
