Galveston College Community Chorale - 2018

Galveston College Community Chorale sets holiday concert ‘Shalom’ on Dec. 13

The Galveston College Community Chorale will present its 2021 holiday concert, “Shalom,” on Monday, Dec. 13, beginning at 7:30 p.m. at Moody Memorial First United Methodist Church, 2803 53rd St., Galveston.

The free concert is open to the public.

Under the direction of Michael Gilbert, the community chorale will perform a variety of traditional carols, hymns and songs, including Kyle Pederson’s arrangement of “O Come, O Come, Emmanuel” featuring cellist Jack Sheaffer, Dan Forrest’s arrangement of “The First Noel,” Adolphe Adam’s arrangement of “O Holy Night” featuring soloist Jane Swanson and Josh Sparkman’s arrangement of “All Is Quiet.”

The chorale will perform Forrest’s “Shalom,” featuring violinist Luis Ramirez, which was written in 2020 as a way to share peace to one another during the pandemic. The Hebrew word “shalom” forms the refrains, and whispers of the word “peace” further paint the spirit and promise of the text.

The chorale also will perform other holiday music, including Daniel E. Schwandt’s arrangement of traditional English tune “Ding Dong! Merrily on High,” “There’s A Song in the Air” featuring a duet by John and Mary Allums, and Mark Hayes’ arrangement of “We Need a Little Christmas” from the Broadway production of “Mame.”

Internationally acclaimed organist, Ron Wyatt, the chorale’s accompanist, also will be featured in a special musical presentation on the pipe organ.

The chorale is composed of singers from the greater Galveston area and is open to individuals who are interested in singing and being a part of an outstanding choral organization.
