Galveston College mourns passing of longtime Regent Carroll Sunseri

The Galveston College family is mourning the passing of longtime Regent Carroll G. Sunseri, who died Thursday, Dec. 30, at his home in Galveston.

Regent Sunseri was a lifelong community and business leader in Galveston. He served on the Galveston Community College District Board of Regents for more than 30 years and was a past chairman of the board. At the time of his passing, he served on the Facilities Committee and Finance Committee, and he chaired the Policies Committee.

A Galveston native, Regent Sunseri began his career at Moody Bank and later joined Citizens Bank and Trust in Baytown. He retired from banking in 2002 and later operated an apartment rental business.

Regent Sunseri was a 1961 graduate of the University of Texas, a charter member of the Longhorn Foundation and a lifetime member of the university’s alumni association. He served in the U.S. Army for two years where he was in the reserves and received an honorable discharge in August 1967 at the rank of staff sergeant. He also was a 1967 graduate of the Southwestern Graduate School of Banking at Southern Methodist University in Dallas.

Elected in 1990, Regent Sunseri was the longest-serving member of the Galveston Community College District Board of Regents.

“Galveston College is a stronger and better institution today because of Regent Sunseri’s influence, advocacy, expertise and generosity,” said Dr. Myles Shelton, college president.

“Please join me in extending our thoughts and prayers to his wife, Andrea, daughters, Carolyn and Stephanie, the entire family, his vast network of friends and associates, and all who knew and loved him.”
