Galveston College to host virtual self care and mental health workshops

The Galveston College Outreach and Retention Committee will host a series of virtual health and wellness workshops this summer via Zoom videoconference. The workshops are free and open to all students, faculty, staff and the general public.

July 22, 11 a.m.
“Academic Stress and Mental Health Considerations”
Presenter: Denysse Guzman, LPCA, VOCA Counselor, Gulf Coast Center

This presentation is designed for college-aged students to discuss stresses faced during the semester. The objectives of this training are to identify warning signs of a decrease in mental health, as well as identify coping skills or habits to aid with stress management.

About the Presenters

Kristin Holt

Kristin Holt is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. A native of Galveston County, she holds a bachelor’s degree in Social Work from the University of Houston-Downtown and a master’s degree in Social Work from the University of Houston.

Her professional experience includes working with adolescents, engaging special populations via outreach and education, and trauma-focused training to help those with complex grief and bereavement.

Denysse Guzman

Denysse Guzman is a Licensed Professional Counselor Associate. She earned an Associate of Science from Galveston College, a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi and a Master of Arts in Forensic Psychology from The University of Houston-Victoria.

Her experience includes working with individuals dealing with complex trauma in residential settings following abuse, assault or disaster. She uses a person-centered approach, motivational interviewing, and trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapy in working with individuals and groups.
