Whitecaps Walk a Mile in Her Shoes

On Thursday, Oct. 26, our Galveston Whitecaps Baseball Team participated in the Walk a Mile in Her Shoes event. Walkers, wearing red high heeled shoes, started at Pleasure Pier and made their way down Seawall Boulevard. The event which raises awareness and supports victims of domestic violence, drew in over 200 participants.

Whitecaps Baseball Earns NJCAA All-American for 4th Straight Year

Yesterday, the NJCAA Division 1 Baseball All-American Teams were announced, and for the fourth straight year Galveston College Whitecaps Baseball had a player named an All-American. Carson Maxwell (Soph 3B) was named Second Team All-American. Carson had a very impressive year, batting .443 with 6 HR, 57 RBI, and leading the country with 27 doubles.

The three previous Galveston College All-Americans were, Tyler Webb (OF 2016), Jose Garcia (C 2015), Jose Rendon (RHP 2014).

Galveston College Well Represented in MLB draft

Major League Baseball held its 2017 Amateur Draft on June 12-14, 2017 and Galveston College Whitecaps Baseball was well represented.  Two current students and three former students were picked in the 40 round draft, which concluded on Wednesday evening,

2017 MLB Draft Picks from GC

Sophomore LHP Blake Pflughaupt was picked in the 27th round (Pick #799) by the Tampa Bay Rays.  Pflugerhaupt went 7-6 with a 3.80 ERA last season and led the Whitecaps in strikeouts with 71. Sophomore SS Bernabe Camargo was picked in the 28th round (#835) by the Los Angeles Angels.  Camargo hit .393 this past season, with 4 home runs and a team-leading 59 RBI.

A trio of Spring 2015 Whitecaps also heard their name called this week.  LF Raphael Gladu, a senior at Louisiana Tech, was drafted in the 16th round (pick #487) by the New York Mets.  University of Texas – RGV  senior OF Jose Garcia, an NJCAA All-American during his sophomore year here at Galveston College, was drafted in the 25th round (pick #747) by the Chicago White Sox.  RHP Gabriel Klobosits, a senior at Auburn University, was selected in the 36th round (pick #1093) by the Washington Nationals.

Congratulations to those current and former Whitecaps for continuing their dream of playing in the big leagues.  We are all very proud of you!

Whitecaps Baseball Honored Leading up to NJCAA Region XIV Tournament

The conference coaches voted on the All-Conference selections, and the members of our conference who will be nominated for All-Region yesterday. Galveston College Baseball had 8 players named All-Conference, and 4 players who have been nominated for All-Region (if they make the All-Region team they are automatically nominated for NJCAA All-American Honors), they are:

1st Team All-Conference: Carson Maxwell (SOPH, 3B), Bernabe Camargo (SOPH, SS), Mason Leeming (SOPH, RHP)

2nd Team All-Conference: Elvin Alamo (SOPH, 2B), Davis Jenks (FRESH, OF), Blake Pflughaupt (SOPH, LHP), Kristjan Storrie (SOPH, RHP), Kyle Ros (FRESH, LHP)

Whitecaps being nominated for All-Region: Carson Maxwell (SOPH, 3B), Bernabe Camargo (SOPH, SS), Elvin Alamo (SOPH, 2B), Jonel Ozuna (SOPH, 1B)

The Whitecaps finished 2nd in the conference, with an overall record of 34-20, and 21-14 in conference play. GC will play Angelina College in the first round of the NJCAA Region XIV Tournament on Saturday May 13th at 10:00AM at AirHogs Stadium in Grand Prairie, TX. All of the tournament games will be broadcast live on the internet through TSRN.
