New career placement and tutoring coordinator hits the ground running with opportunities for students

Galveston College recently named Megan Stockfleth as career placement and tutoring coordinator, a position that oversees career counseling, planning and placement and student tutoring services.

As a 10-year veteran tutor and tutoring center supervisor, Stockfleth understands the importance of one-on-one, student-centered teaching for continued academic growth and success. With a bachelor’s degree in philosophy and a Master of Business Administration from Texas A&M University, she specializes in leadership, project management and community building.

As a first-generation student and the first in her family to obtain a master’s degree, Stockfleth said she realizes the important opportunity community colleges offer to students who might not have a traditional background. She is passionate about helping students help themselves fulfill their academic, career and personal goals.

“Diversity is what makes us as a community strong, and differences create dynamic teams that solve problems in unique and innovative ways,” she said. “Having traveled to Spain in 2017 to walk 362 miles of the Camino de Santiago and after spending a year teaching in South Korea, I appreciate cultural differences and have seen first-hand how we are all so very similar despite first glances.”

In her spare time, Stockfleth is an avid reader, writer, artist and adventurer. She enjoys creating material for her website that encourages readers to think critically and develop more empathy for humankind. She said she looks forward to co-creating growing and learning opportunities with her new work family and friends at Galveston College.

“Ms. Stockfleth brings a great deal of experience and energy to the college, and we are excited to welcome her as an integral part of our Student Services team,” said Deon Botha, director of Counseling, Advising, Testing, Career Placement and Tutoring. “She has already implemented a series of student success seminars that will greatly assist our students in career planning and placement.”
