Galveston College Community Chorale spring concert is May 19

The Galveston College Community Chorale’s free spring concert, “Songs of Democracy,” is set for Sunday, May 19, at 7 p.m. at Moody Methodist Church, located at 53rd and Avenue U in Galveston, Texas.

In honor of Armed Forces Day and Memorial Day, the Galveston College Community Chorale will perform America’s favorite patriotic songs, including “America” and “God Bless America.”

Under the direction of Michael Gilbert, the concert will feature a presentation of the colors by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 880, a salute to the armed forces with recognition of those in each branch of service, and a special rendition of “Stars and Stripes Forever” by world-renowned organist Ron Wyatt.

The concert is free and open to the public.

Galveston College Chorale Holiday Concert

The Galveston College Community Chorale will present their annual Holiday Concert on Sunday, December 10 beginning at 7:30 PM at Moody Methodist Church. The theme for this program is “A Global Holiday Concert” and will feature holiday music from around the world.

The featured piece of the concert will be a cantata by JS Bach entitled “For Us A Child is Born” and will be accompanied by Ron Wyatt on the pipe organ with soloist from the chorale. The French carol “He Is Born”“Huron Carol” from Canada, and “Here We Come A-Caroling” a traditional English carol, are just some of the selections that will be included on the program.

Joanna Whitsett, organist and harpist, of Moody Methodist will be the guest artist as she accompanies the chorale on the German carol, “Silent Night”. Ms. Whitsett will also play a medley of carols entitled “Christmas Joy”.

The concert is free and open to the public.
