Galveston College Community Chorale sets holiday concert

” December Magic” is the theme of the Galveston College Community Chorale’s annual holiday concert on Sunday, Dec. 16, beginning at 7 p.m. at Moody Methodist Church, 2803 53rd St., Galveston, Texas.

Under the direction of Michael Gilbert, with accompaniment by Ron Wyatt, the choir will perform a variety of traditional carols, including “Hark the Herald Angels Sing” accompanied by a brass choir.

Other holiday treasures include “O Little Town of Bethlehem,” “Away in a Manger,” “We Need a Little Christmas” and a special arrangement of “Jingle Bells.” There are other selections, as well as a soloist from the chorale.

The free concert is open to the public.

De-Stress Week: Pet Therapy with Galveston Island Humane Society

The Galveston College Student Activities office will sponsor pet therapy with the Galveston Humane Society as part of Fall 2018 De-Stress Week on Tuesday, Dec. 4, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the Seibel Wing Patio.

What better way to de-stress for finals than to pet a puppy?

Galveston College Fine Arts Holiday Music Recital

The Galveston College Fine Arts department will have a holiday music recital on Thursday, Nov. 29, from 7-9 p.m. in Room 207 of the Fine Arts Building on the Galveston College campus.

Under the direction of Dr. Cindy Kates, the students will present selections in a required credit performance.

The recital is free and open to the public.

MSI Hygiene Bag Donation Drive

Every December the Male Success Initiative donates hygiene bags to the homeless as part of Galveston’s weekly Breakfast of Champions, which serves breakfast to the homeless. We are soliciting donations of the following toiletry items:
• Toothbrush
• Toothpaste
• Razors
• Soap ( Both Men and Women)
• Shaving Cream ( Both Men and Women)
• Deodorant (Both Men and Women)

Share Your Holidays Food Drive

Share Your Holidays Food Drive
Underway on Campus

Galveston College is the newest community partner in the Share Your Holidays Food Drive benefiting the Galveston County Food Bank.

Coordinated by Ball High School students and faculty, the 38th annual ABC13 Share Your Holidays Food Drive will culminate this year on Friday, Dec. 7, at Ball High School, 41st Street and Avenue O.

Non-perishable food items or monetary contributions will be accepted by the Galveston College Student Government Association and other student organizations on the Galveston College campus from now until Thursday, Dec. 6.

Collection boxes are located throughout the main campus and the Charlie Thomas Family Applied Technology Center.

The Galveston College SGA and other student organization leaders will travel to Ball High School with Cynthia Parra, coordinator of Student Activities, at 8:30 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 7, to appear on ABC13.

All contributions benefit the Galveston County Food Bank for distribution to those in need throughout Galveston County. Most-needed items include cereal, whole-grain pasta and rice, peanut butter, canned fruits/vegetables, canned meats, beans and soup, hygiene and household items, paper products, and kid-friendly snacks (e.g. fruit cups, juice boxes, granola bars) and for seniors — nutritional shakes and drinks, as well as adult hygiene products.
