Dear Friends of Galveston College:
As we approach year-end, we write to share our optimism for the future, thank you for your past support, and invite you to help us achieve important goals. While it is undeniable that students in today’s world face many real challenges, we’re proud that Galveston College offers real solutions. We know that many students feel burdened by immediate needs of paying rent, buying groceries or caring for family members. Investing in higher education often seems out of reach. The pandemic has added a layer of uncertainty and some students are hesitant to pursue college. According to a recent Comptroller report, workers with a college or an associate degree earn an average of $8,393 more annually than high school graduates. When employees are skilled and trained for high-demand jobs in our region, the local economy benefits. Out of our doors emerge Galveston’s nurses, air conditioning technicians, EMTs, teachers, and business owners. Student success depends on their own initiative as well as support of faculty, staff, community members and generous donors. The College’s Emergency Scholarship Fund has helped students through the worst of the pandemic, and the Foundation has provided over 1,900 scholarships since the inception of its Universal Access Endowment, allowing Galveston students to graduate with little to no debt. Students enroll in college when they know they have social, academic and financial support. We invite you to consider a gift to the Real Success Fund today. Enrollment continues to climb toward pre-pandemic levels, but we must provide support and resources that assure our students. Your investment now will bring real solutions to students who will contribute to a stronger community tomorrow.
With sincere gratitude,
