Graduation Information 

 

General graduation requirements can be found in the Graduation section of the Galveston College Catalog.  Additional program requirements for graduation can be found under the Degree Plans and Programs of Study section of the catalog.  Expand categories below for more information. 

The Admissions and Records Office certifies eligibility to participate in commencement exercises. All students are strongly encouraged to visit with an advisor prior to applying for graduation to ensure all graduation requirements have been met.
 

Details For Fall 2022 Graduates

Galveston College Fall 2022 Diplomas are ready for pickup!! Graduates, please bring your photo ID to the Admissions window and we'll be happy to hand over your hard-earned diploma. You should receive an email and text alert with all of this information soon!
 
All diplomas for students living about 50 or more miles from Galveston College have been mailed via the USPS.  Students living closer who prefer it mailed or whose address has changed can contact me at awiste@gc.edu with the that corrected information. Also, per GC policy, all holds will need to be resolved before releasing your diploma. Please check your myGC portal regularly to clear up any holds in a timely fashion. Any student on Federal Financial Aid will need to visit https://studentaid.gov/exit-counseling/ to complete the exit counseling.

All graduates in the 2022-2023 academic year (Summer and Fall 2022 and Spring 2023) are invited to our May 12th, 2023 graduation ceremony!  I will send out more Ceremony details in the Spring 2023 semester, but you can always check right here for updated information sooner.  Happy New Year!

In addition to general course requirements, students must also meet the following requirements to be eligible to graduate from Galveston College:

  • GPA must be 2.00 or higher
  • At least 25% of certificate/degree requirements must be completed in residence at Galveston College

Please note: Outstanding financial or other obligations that create a hold on the student account at Galveston College will prevent the student from receiving a copy of his/her diploma.

Galveston College offers one formal commencement exercise held at the end of the spring semester. All graduating students are encouraged to participate in the ceremony. Please check the Galveston College website as commencement approaches for ceremony details.

Students who are graduating with an Associate degree (A.A., A.S., or A.A.S), who have at least 24 semester hours in residence, who have completed at least two semesters at Galveston College, and who have a grade point average of at least 3.5 (on a 4.0 scale) on all work attempted will graduate cum laude (with honors).

Students who are graduating with a Bachelor of Applied Science degree (B.A.S.), who have at least 45 upper-level semester hours at
Galveston College, and who have a grade point average of at least 3.5 (on a 4.0 scale) on all work attempted will graduate cum laude
(with honors). 

Students who are graduating with an Associate degree, who have at least 24 semester hours in residence, who have completed at least two semesters at Galveston College, and who have a grade point average of at least 3.75 (on a 4.0 scale) on all work attempted will graduate magna cum laude (with high honors).

Students who are graduating with a Bachelor of Applied Science degree, who have at least 45 upper-level semester hours at Galveston
College, and who have a grade point average of at least 3.75 (on a 4.0 scale) on all work attempted will graduate magna cum laude
(with high honors). 

Students who are graduating with an Associate degree, who have at least 24 semester hours in residence, who have completed at least two semesters at Galveston College, and who have a grade point average of at least 3.9 (on a 4.0 scale) on all work attempted will graduate summa cum laude (with highest honors).

Students who are graduating with a Bachelor of Applied Science degree, who have at least 45 upper-level semester hours at Galveston
College, and who have a grade point average of at least 3.9 (on a 4.0 scale) on all work attempted will graduate summa cum laude
(with highest honors).

All honor graduates wear specially colored tassels at the commencement ceremony. * These tassels will be provided to the student at no charge the day of the ceremony, prior to commencement.

*Students who received red, white, or gold honors tassels in a previous year may wear those on your cap.  All other students who earned honors will be provided a 2022 tassel in the appropriate color the day of the ceremony, May 13th.
