Galveston College will celebrate its 52nd commencement ceremony Friday, May 17, at 7:30 p.m. at the Galveston Island Convention Center at the San Luis Resort, Spa and Conference Center, 56th Street and Seawall Boulevard, Galveston.
Scott Branum, director of admissions and registrar, said 642students will receive 744 associate degrees and certificates. More than 2,000 family members and friends are expected to attend the event.
The grand marshals of the faculty, staff and student procession will be faculty exceptional service award winners.
Dr. W. Myles Shelton, Galveston College president, will offer a welcome and introduce platform guests.
Karen Flowers, chair of the Galveston Community College District Board of Regents, will bring greetings from the board.
Speakers will include graduating students Olha Few and Kelly Simmons.
Theron Waddell, president of the Galveston College Faculty Senate, will certify the graduates, and Dr. Cissy Matthews, vice president for instruction, will introduce the candidates for degrees and certificates.
Music will be provided by the Galveston College Community Chorale Ensemble and TMH Company, conducted by Theresa Hanebury.
