The Galveston College Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) Honor Society Chapter showed its continued support of community service by participating in Galveston’s Hobo Breakfast, a long-standing tradition of service offering supportive services to those in need.
Galveston College PTK member Roma Emmett, along with volunteers Michael Steven Caballero and GC Nuclear Medicine Technology program students Cedric Butler and Mark Emmett, gave away approximately 170 hygiene kits to the homeless community on Feb. 24 at the breakfast event held at Winnie and 20th Streets.
“It is always a wonderful experience, knowing that in a small way, we can help out those in need,” said Roma Emmett. “It is a fulfilling feeling when someone says thank you and smiles back at you. I can see how much this project is appreciated and very much needed in our community.”
The Hobo Breakfast, facilitated by the Galveston Street Ministry, offers essential services including spiritual fellowship, health screenings and distribution of items such as food and various necessities, including hats, gloves, socks and toiletries. Roma Emmett and the volunteers also distributed sandwiches and bottled water, and helped out other ministries by sorting clothes.
