Galveston College welcomed back Chef Hunter Blake as the newest member of its on-campus food service staff at Mr. C’s DugOut for the fall 2024 semester.
Blake, a proud 2017 graduate of Galveston College’s Culinary Arts program, is returning to his roots after spending nine successful years at the beloved local pizzeria, Mama Teresa’s Flying Pizza.
“I knew it was time for something new,” said Blake. “I saw the opportunity to enrich student nutrition as an exciting new challenge.”
Blake’s culinary journey began at GC under the mentorship of Chef Paul Mendoza, where his childhood love of cooking blossomed into a full-fledged career.
“Joining Galveston College has definitely been a full-circle moment for me,” said Blake.
Now, as a chef on campus at Mr. C’s DugOut, the college’s food service provider, the GC alum is eager to share his passion for food with the next generation of students.
One of Blake’s main goals is to diversify the student dining experience.
“I just want to try and get [students] to eat something other than chicken fingers,” said Blake.
Alongside fellow Chef Cody Flowers, Blake plans to bring his culinary expertise into the Whitecaps meal rotations by introducing classic Italian flavors and pizza recipes he created for Mr. C’s DugOut.
Students can find Chef Blake and Chef Cody at Mr. C’s DugOut, located in the Eudine Meadows Cheney Student Center on Galveston College’s main campus. As the new school year begins, Blake is ready to nourish the Whitecaps community, ensuring students are well-fed both in body and mind.
