The Galveston College Theatre Department has achieved significant recognition for its outstanding contributions to the performing arts. The department’s fall productions of Lauren Gunderson’s “The Taming,” directed by Liz Lacy, and “Toil and Trouble,” directed by Adam Brandner, were honored as participating productions in the prestigious Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival (KCACTF) Region VI.
In late November, a representative from the KCACTF Region VI Committee provided responses to the productions, highlighting the exceptional talents of the Galveston College Theatre company members:
- Meritorious Achievement in Acting:
- “The Taming”: Daniella Fink, Isabella Hernandez and Annie Homer
- “Toil and Trouble”: Eva Arita, Fiona Burton and Jackson Pendergrass
- Meritorious Achievement in Stage Management: Alyssa Gudz (“The Taming” and “Toil and Trouble”)
- Meritorious Achievement in Properties Design: Alyssa Gudz (“Toil and Trouble”)
- Meritorious Achievement in Light Board Operation: Diamond West (“The Taming” and “Toil and Trouble”)
- Meritorious Achievement in Sound Board Operation: Aaron Gudz (“The Taming” and “Toil and Trouble”)
- Meritorious Achievement in Wig Design: Fiona Burton (“Toil and Trouble”)
Additionally, company members Elijah Barrie and Chad Keith were recognized for their outstanding contributions to these productions.
The honors don’t stop there. Both productions are under consideration to perform at the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival Region VI, which will take place in Abilene, in February 2025. The final decision on their inclusion will be announced later this month.
The Galveston College Theatre Department offers a professional immersive training experience for all students within the disciplines of acting, playwriting, directing, design, and technology. Four productions a year and a diverse range of theatre courses provide every opportunity for students to develop their theatrical skills. Scholarships are available.
