GISD Bilingual/ESL program students and parents visited Galveston College at the end of June to learn about higher education.

As part of the visit, guest speaker Dr. Jose Zelaya gave a lively presentation to the future college students about the benefits of pursuing a higher education.

Zelaya, who migrated to the United States from Honduras and earned his undergraduate and graduate degrees from Texas A&M University, described his experience as a student. He also had interactive discussions about the cost of living and how a higher education can help students improve their lives and that of their families.

During the event, students and parents were also treated to food, prizes and giveaways.
