Working with Scenic Galveston, Inc., Phi Theta Kappa students and advisors participated in Trash Bash®, which is the largest single day waterway clean-up event in the State of Texas, on March 24 at the John M. O’Quinn Estuarial Corridor Preserve.

Trash Bash® has experienced tremendous growth over 24 years. Since 1994, 105,800 volunteers have collected 2,189 tons of trash, 16 tons of recycling and 10,709 tires.

The group picked up approximately 25-35 30-gallon bags of trash, which included one cell phone, countless food and beverage containers, over one dozen single shoes, a ton of clothing, fishing line, plastic bags and other miscellaneous waste.

The group encourages everyone to dispose of waste and trash responsibly – Don’t Mess With Texas, and help keep the state’s waterways healthy.
