The Galveston College Whitecaps qualified to the NJCAA DI Region 14 Tournament and
earned the fourth seed in the competition after they finished the regular season Wednesday
in a three-way tie for second place in the South Conference.
The Whitecaps compiled a 39-15 overall regular-season record and a 15-9 mark in conference
play. GC finished tied for second place in the South Conference with Blinn College
and Alvin College.
“This team has continued to compete and grow all season long,” said GC Head Softball
Coach, Kelly Raines. “We’ve faced adversity, played a demanding schedule and continued
to fight for a spot in the regional tournament. I’m proud of the way our players have
stayed focused and supported one another, and we’re excited for the opportunity to
compete in the regional tournament.”
GC will open tournament play against top-seeded Trinity Valley Community College at
5 p.m. Wednesday, May 13, at San Jacinto Softball Field on the San Jacinto College-South
Campus in Houston. TVCC enters the postseason with a 52-6 overall record and a 22-2
mark in the North Conference.
The eight-team tournament will be played May 13-16, with the winner advancing to the
NJCAA Division I Softball World Series at Oxford, Alabama, May 25-30.
The Whitecaps enter postseason play after another strong spring under coach Raines,
who guided GC through a competitive Region 14 schedule that featured several key conference
series and an extended road stretch this season. GC finished the regular season among
the conference leaders in wins and remained in contention for the South Conference
title through the final week of play.
The Region 14 Tournament features four teams from both the North and South conferences.
