Galveston College will look to get back on the winning path March 18 at 1 p.m. when the Whitecaps visit San Jacinto College-North in the first of a weeklong four-game series.

GC will host SJCN at Bernard Davis Field in Galveston on March 20 at 6 p.m. before the series returns to the Ravens’ home field on March 22 for a twin bill at 2 and 4:30 p.m.

The Whitecaps are 14-12 overall and in third place in the Region 14 South Conference with a 6-4 record. Meanwhile, the Ravens are in second place with a 13-10 overall mark, 6-4 in conference play, just ahead of GC in the standings.

“We had a few setbacks this weekend against a talented and competitive Blinn College squad,” said GC Head Baseball Coach, Ryne Edmondson. “We came close in the final game of the series at home on Sunday, but we let them back into the game and they won. It was a tough loss, but it was an experience we can learn from and we’ll continue to improve.”

“The team is focused on our series against San Jac this week and working hard in practice to get back on the winning track,” added Edmondson.

After winning five of six games and tying another, GC has dropped four straight games, three to conference-leading Blinn College (20-6 overall, 8-2 in conference) on March 15 and 16, and a non-conference game to Dallas College Eastfield on March 10.

In Sunday’s home game against BC, the Whitecaps overcame an early 1-0 deficit with a five-run sixth inning and added three more in the seventh to take a commanding 8-1 advantage.

The Buccaneers mounted their comeback in the eighth inning by scoring eight runs to reclaim the lead, 9-8. The Whitecaps tied it at 9-all in the bottom half of the frame with a lone score.

The visitors’ momentum continued in the ninth and BC broke the deadlock with two runs to win the game, 11-9. Buccaneers pitcher Paxton Terveen (2-0) was credited with the win, while BC reliever Hunter Bond notched his second save.

For GC, right-handed sophomore Dylan Vinson (0-1) took the loss after giving up five runs on three hits in 1.1 innings of relief work.
