Galveston College’s Psychology Program Coordinator, Kavica Williams, Ph.D., and her husband, Jared Williams, DBA, chief executive officer of Family Service Center of Galveston County, were honored as two of The Galveston County Daily News’ prestigious 40 Under 40.

The Daily News’ annual award, now in its seventh year, celebrates young leaders making significant contributions to the community, and this year’s selection recognizes the Williams’ exceptional dedication and impact.

“Receiving recognition in the 40 Under 40 list came as a complete surprise to me,” said Kavica. “I have always strived to excel in my work, mentoring, advancing psychology education and being a mental health advocate, but I never imagined my efforts would be acknowledged in such a prestigious way.”

The honor was more special for Kavica when her husband, Jared, was also recognized in the 40 Under 40 list.

“Being included in the 40 Under 40 list alongside my husband is an incredible honor and a dream come true for both of us,” said Kavica. “It's an acknowledgment of our combined efforts, passions, and achievements, highlighting the impact we've made individually and together in our respective fields. This recognition signifies more than just personal success, it's a celebration of our partnership and shared journey.”

Kavica joined GC in 2023 as a faculty member and became the college’s Psychology Program Coordinator. She holds a doctorate in General Psychology with an emphasis in Industrial Organizational Psychology from Grand Canyon University, a master’s in Human Services from Liberty University and she received her bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Prairie View A&M University.

Her experience in the psychology field includes working as a mental health professional and teaching first-year experience and psychology. Kavica’s particular interests include positive psychology, promoting mental health awareness and resilience, and building a better and stronger community.

“This recognition is a testament to the transformative power of education and mentorship,” said Kavica. “Each day in the classroom, I strive to ignite a passion for psychology within my students, empowering them to think critically, engage deeply and pursue their academic and professional aspirations with confidence, all while making sure they remain mentally healthy.”

For Jared, the recognition was equally an honor and made special because he could share it with his wife.

“Receiving the 40 under 40 award is a tremendous honor, recognizing not just the individual efforts but the collective impact of our work,” said Jared. “It's incredibly meaningful to share this recognition as a couple, highlighting the strength and support we provide each other in our personal and professional lives. Together, we are driven to make a difference, and this award is a testament to our shared commitment and dedication.”
