Galveston College has announced an innovative training partnership that will enable the college to offer free workforce training to clients of local social-service agencies and others in need of marketable skills.
“Sixteen-week Pipefitter Helper and Computer Support Technician training programs have been generously funded by the Moody Permanent Endowment Fund and are aimed at helping unemployed and disadvantaged segments of our island community,” said Dr. Rebecca Stout, director of Continuing Education at Galveston College. “We are so excited to be offering these two popular programs next semester and to be working with our community partners to bring these opportunities to those in need of training.”
Classes will run in the evenings once target enrollments are reached.
In addition to the Pipefitter Helper and Computer Support Technician training programs,
the college offers free eight-week Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration
Helper and Electrical Helper programs through a grant from the Texas Workforce Commission.
Students who successfully complete these training programs are given career coaching and help with improving their job-seeking skills.
“Working together with the support of our partner agencies on the island, we can provide our training candidates with a step up to new careers,” Dr. Stout said.
