Galveston College announced the hiring of new Whitecaps Assistant Baseball Coach, Sam McElreath, to assist in the continued development of GC’s baseball program.
“I’m excited to begin a new chapter in my coaching career at Galveston College,” said McElreath. “The Galveston College baseball program has a longstanding tradition of developing student-athletes. I’m looking forward to being part of GC’s program and helping develop our student-athletes into better players and human beings.”
McElreath, a native of Brenham, will assist new GC Head Baseball Coach, Ryne Edmondson, who recently took over for Brian Reinke.
This past season, the Whitecaps finished in third place in the South Division of the National Junior College Athletic Association Division I Region 14 and fell one game short of advancing past the regional tournament in May.
“I’m thrilled to have Sam join our baseball program at Galveston College,” said Edmondson. “He’s played and coached at the junior college level and is most recently coming in from a Division I program. Sam understands our players and what they need to succeed on and off the field.”
McElreath most recently was an assistant coach at Houston Christian University from 2022-2024. Prior to HCU, he coached at Blinn College and helped BC’s program to a Top 10 NJCAA DI ranking in fielding percentage in 2022. The Brenham native began his coaching career as a graduate assistant coach at Western Kentucky University, his alma mater, in 2021.
He earned a Master of Science in Sports Administration and a Bachelor of Science in Sales/Business Marketing from WKU, and obtained an associate degree in Business from BC.
