More than 1,200 women are expected to attend the Sixth Annual Women In Industry Conference at the Moody Gardens Convention Center from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Thursday, March 23, 2023, to learn about expanding opportunities for women in the petrochemical industry and construction trades.

The Women In Industry Conference is hosted by Galveston College and a consortium of eight other area community colleges in the Texas Gulf Coast region. The consortium includes Alvin Community College, Brazosport College, College of the Mainland, Houston Community College, Lee College, Lone Star College, San Jacinto College and Wharton County Junior College.

This conference is designed for all women – the unemployed or underemployed, high school or college students, veterans and women in transition – who desire a stable, well-paying career.

Women in the Gulf Coast region have more opportunities than ever before due to an aging workforce, plant expansions, and new construction starts in a growing economy.

Attendees at previous conferences also included women already working in the field and looking to advance their careers.

Participants will hear from other women who work in the petrochemical industry and construction trades and will have the opportunity to talk with college representatives about enrollment, financial aid options and other training-related topics. Major employers will be present to provide details about career options.

Current corporate sponsors for the event include ExxonMobil, Worley, Phillips 66, Union Pacific Railroad, Clean Harbors, Turner Industries and Rotary Club of Galveston.
