Galveston College will host Beamon Floyd, consultant and lobbyist, who will present “Politics, Policy and Public Higher Education: Crossroads or Collision?” during Galveston College’s 2024-25 “Building a Better World” Lecture Series at 6 p.m., Nov. 6, 2024, in the Seibel Wing at the GC main campus.

The event is free and open to the public.

Floyd is a consultant and lobbyist with more than 30 years of experience in public affairs. He owns his own lobby firm, founded in 1997. His activities include legislative strategy and direct lobbying, strategic planning and communications, coalition management, organizational consulting, media relations, grass roots strategy and academic research.

He has been highly involved in several major policy issues in Texas, including property and casualty insurance reform, catastrophe policy, workers’ compensation reform, health care, public school finance, higher education policy, state retirement policy and reform, environmental initiatives and religious liberty issues. He is also a regular guest lecturer to college faculty groups, in college classrooms, policy forums, and other political and educational settings.

Floyd has worked with several organizations at the state, national and international level to advance the understanding of public affairs advocacy. He is a credentialed observer to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, attending international Conference of Parties meetings and global working groups on behalf of climate policy stakeholders. He is a Charter Member of the Professional Advocacy Association of Texas.
