Galveston College has teamed up with Michael and Ashley Cordray and their Cordray Drug Store Rolled Ice Cream in support of the college’s athletic programs, and announced the “Coach Kelly’s Whitecaps Crunch” Ice Cream of the Month in honor of Whitecaps Head Softball Coach and GC Athletic Director, Kelly Raines.
Raines led the GC Whitecaps softball team to a National Junior College Athletic Association Division I Region 14 championship and a NJCAA DI World Series appearance in May. In addition, she was named the Mid-South Coach of the Year for Region 14.
“This is truly a great honor and I’m grateful to the Cordray’s for their generosity in helping our student-athletes through this fundraiser,” said Raines. “Not every coach gets to have an ice cream named after them. Tom Schwenk came up with the idea during a Galveston College Foundation meeting and got the wheels rolling. I was flattered he thought of me.”
Local celebrity business owners Michael and Ashley Cordray, who also host “Restoring Galveston,” will donate $1 of every “Coach Kelly’s Whitecaps Crunch” purchase to the GC Whitecaps Softball and Baseball programs.
The cool, creamy and crunchy treat in honor of Coach Raines and in benefit of GC Athletics programs will be available the entire month of August at the Cordray Drug Store, located at 3827 Ave. L in Galveston.
