Galveston College Visual Arts Coordinator, Amanda Barry Jones, unveiled her latest work of art that is now a permanent sculpture in Bastrop.

Jones’ design, “Backyard Birds,” was selected by the City of Bastrop Cultural Arts Committee for the Birds of Bastrop Sculpture Project. She originally submitted the project proposal in May 2025. The site-specific permanent sculpture incorporates bird imagery in celebration of Bastrop’s designation as a Bird City and was designed to attach to the pedestrian bridge railing.

She completed the sculpture in January and it was unveiled on Jan. 10. Her art work now adorns the Chestnut Street pedestrian bridge near the Bastrop Convention Center and Visitor Center.
