The Galveston College Visual Arts Department recently announced the winners of the Student Art Juried Exhibition “Exploring Time, Memory, Transition and Transformation” at a reception in the GC Art Gallery.
Dennis Nance, the curator of the Galveston Arts Center, was the sole juror and announced the winners during the reception. Garrett Priddy won first place for “I Like Your Deodorant,” while Sharon Parker took second place for “Still Life with Marmalade Cat and a Vanishing Point,” and Maria Hernandez claimed third place for “Scales and Shells.”
Nance also recognized Aliyah Garcia, Jimena Hernandez, Tee Jay, Zoe Kennedy, Sanjuana Ortiz, Marisabel Rodriguez and Gage Johnson with honorable mentions.
“We have very talented students, and it was reflected in their creative submissions for the exhibition,” said GC Instructor of Fine Arts and Visual Arts Coordinator, Amanda Barry Jones. “The winners of the exhibition demonstrated exceptional artistic vision and a strong interpretation of the theme. Their work stood out for its originality and thought-provoking exploration of time, memory, transition and transformation.”
In a juried art exhibition, artists submit their artworks that best fit the criteria to be judged by a juror or jury. The exhibition provided students with a valuable opportunity to showcase their artistic growth and gain professional experience in a juried competition.
