The Galveston College Whitecaps will take the field for the first time this year on
Jan. 28 at 5 p.m. as the islanders open the season at home against Ranger College
in GC’s Island Invitational at Bernard Davis Field in Galveston.
Originally slated to begin this weekend, the four-team GC baseball Island Invitational
was moved up in anticipation of colder weather. The tournament field consists of host
Galveston College, Ranger College, Navarro College and Alvin College.
Wednesday’s home opener between the Whitecaps and Rangers is scheduled as a nine-inning
game. GC will play a doubleheader against Navarro College on Jan. 29 at 12 and 3 p.m.
The first game will be a seven-inning affair, while the second contest will be nine-innings.
“We’re excited to get the baseball season started with our traditional Island Invitational,”
said GC Head Baseball Coach, Ryne Edmondson. “The weather has been a challenge, but
we’re ready to go. The team has been practicing hard these past several months and
they can’t wait to hit the field.”
All home games are played at Bernard Davis Field, located at 81st Street and Frank
Guisti Drive in Galveston. Games are free and open to the public.
