Galveston College faculty and staff gathered after the winter break on Jan. 5 for
the college’s Spring 2026 General Assembly, marking the official welcome to a new
academic semester.
The college-wide event featured remarks from Galveston College President W. Myles
Shelton, Ed.D., and GC Regent Carolyn L. Sunseri, who was appointed chair of the Galveston
College Board of Regents in December. GC’s General Assembly, held twice a year, serves
as an opportunity to provide campus updates, recognize milestones and align priorities
ahead of a new semester.
In his address, Dr. Shelton welcomed new employees to the college and shared updates
on several institutional initiatives. His remarks included an overview of current
legislative affairs impacting higher education, as well as information related to
the college’s master plan. He also highlighted GC’s record fall enrollment and noted
the institution’s strong performance during 2025, a year in which many colleges nationwide
experienced enrollment and operational challenges.
GC Regent and Board Chair Sunseri welcomed faculty and staff to the spring semester
and emphasized the board’s continued support of the college’s mission and strategic
direction.
The program also featured a special guest presentation by Dr. Monique Reeves, executive
vice chancellor for the future at Austin Community College. Reeves delivered a presentation
titled “Galveston College: Beyond the Crystal Ball,” which explored trends shaping
the future of higher education and the importance of strategic planning, adaptability
and innovation.
