The Galveston College Board of Regents announced the members of the 15-member GC Presidential
Search Committee, in addition to the tentative search timeline and plan during Wednesday’s
regular Board of Regents meeting at the college’s main campus.
The 15-member search committee will be chaired by GC Regent Carolyn Sunseri, and consist
of three GC regents overall, two of which are required by Texas law, and includes
three current GC faculty members, one retired faculty, two current staff members,
five individuals representing different facets of the community and one student.
The members of the search committee are: GC Regents Carolyn Sunseri, Fred Raschke
and Raymond Lewis, community members Vic Pierson, Keith Bassett, Samantha Seale Miro,
Dr. Vivian Hernandez and Allan Matthews, GC Faculty Senate President Tyree Bearden,
GC Faculty Senate Vice President Don Davison, GC Division Director for Health Science
Programs and Radiology Faculty, Daniel Fink, Retired GC History Professor and author,
Dr. Larry Blomstedt, GC Student Advisor for Building Bridges to Success, Amanda Lozano,
GC Athletic Director Kelly Raines and GC Student Government Association President,
Mariana Hernandez Lima.
The GC Presidential Search Committee will be tasked with reviewing confidential applications
and nominations, interviewing semifinalist candidates and identifying the final candidates
to be forwarded to the GC Board of Regents for consideration.
During last month’s regular board meeting, the GC Board of Regents selected the Association
of Community College Trustees (ACCT) to assist with the nationwide presidential search
process.
ACCT will develop an electronic survey to solicit anonymous feedback to assist in
the development of a draft presidential profile. Afterward, ACCT will facilitate a
series of in-person public forums to gather additional feedback to inform the development
of the presidential profile. Dates, times and locations will be announced once they
are confirmed.
The presidential profile outlines qualities, characteristics, skills and experience
the college needs in its next president. The profile also guides the national search
and recruitment process, and reflects the needs and vision of the college’s community.
After the presidential profile is developed, the search committee will begin the recruitment
process, review confidential applications and identify semifinal candidates for consideration
by the GC Board of Regents.
The search committee’s recruitment efforts will include a nationwide search to seek
qualified candidates from across the country.
All candidate finalists will visit the GC campus and participate in open public forums.
A presidential search web page is being developed to provide updates, search timeline
and details about the application process.
Current GC President W. Myles Shelton, Ed.D., announced his retirement on Aug. 11,
2025 and the Board of Regents accepted his notice of retirement, effective August
2026, during the Sept. 10, 2025 monthly regular meeting.
