The Galveston College Board of Regents elected GC Regent Carolyn L. Sunseri as the
new board chair after GC Regent Karen Flowers’ resignation as chair was accepted by
the board on Thursday, during a Special Meeting of the Galveston Community College
District Board of Regents.
“I know I have some big shoes to fill,” said Sunseri. “I’m an alum of Galveston College
and I owe my professional career to the college. I stepped into my father’s place
and I’m proud to be here for the betterment of Galveston College. I promise to assist
the leadership of the college in any way I can.”
Sunseri was elected to the GC Board of Regents in May 2022 after the passing of her
father, longtime GC Regent Carroll G. Sunseri, who served as regent from 1990 until
the time of his passing in December 2021. Sunseri represents Position 6 and her board
term runs through May 2026.
Flowers, who represents Position 3, has served on the GC board for 13 and a half years
and has been board chair for seven and a half of those years. She was reelected in
May 2024. Her term expires in May 2030.
“After seven and a half years, it’s time to step down,” said Flowers. “I’m not leaving
the board, but it’s time for someone else to move into the chair position and learn
how I did over the years.”
