Galveston College celebrated a historic milestone this fall semester, enrolling 2,624
students, the highest enrollment in the college’s history and a 9.15% increase over
the previous fall.
The achievement marks the culmination of steady growth over the past three years,
as the college’s enrollment has continued to climb back to pre-pandemic levels. Since
Fall 2022, GC has seen consistent gains in student numbers, reflecting renewed interest
in higher education and the college’s expanded academic and student support offerings.
“This year’s record enrollment is a testament to the hard work of our faculty, staff
and community partners who continue to make Galveston College a place where students
feel welcomed and supported,” said GC Vice President for Student Services, Ron Crumedy.
“Our students trust us with their goals and dreams, and we are committed to providing
them with the resources and guidance they need to succeed.”
In fall 2018, GC’s enrollment was growing with 2,423 students, but dropped two years
later due to the impact of the pandemic.
Several factors have contributed to the historic increase, including new programs,
strengthened outreach efforts, expanded dual credit opportunities for high school
students, the college’s Universal Access Scholarships, and enhanced student services
designed to improve access and retention.
GC has also increased its focus on workforce-aligned programs, ensuring students can
pursue degrees and certificates that prepare them for in-demand careers along the
Gulf Coast and beyond.
“Reaching this level of enrollment not only reflects the confidence our community
places in Galveston College, but it also strengthens the local workforce and economy,”
said Crumedy. “Every student who walks through our doors brings potential that benefits
not just themselves, but also Galveston Island and the surrounding region.”
GC remains committed to sustaining growth through innovation and community collaboration.
The college has added new academic and workforce education and training programs,
expanded facilities and student housing, and continued investment in technology and
support services.
GC’s state-of-the-art, three-story, 64,000-square foot Health Sciences Education Center
opened in August 2024, the Black Box Theatre was completed in fall 2024 and the Student
Success Center opened in spring 2025. In addition, GC launched a Bachelor of Applied
Science degree in Business Administration, an associate degree Paralegal program,
and expanded the Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) certificate program to an associate
degree this year.
