Financial Aid Displacement Advisory

Financial aid displacement occurs when a student’s financial aid is reduced due to receipt of a private scholarship or other reasons identified in this advisory. 

Financial Aid Displacement Advisory

  1. Submit your FAFSA  
    Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) at studentaid.gov  
  2. Apply for Scholarships 
    Visit www.gc.edu/scholarships for institutional and foundation scholarship opportunities. External scholarship links are also available on the site. 
  3. Maintain Eligibility 
    Meet Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) standards and remain enrolled in an eligible program. 
  4. Report Outside Scholarships 
    If you receive a scholarship from a private donor, community organization, or employer, email documentation to [email protected] so it can be applied correctly to your financial aid package. 
  5. Monitor Your Aid 
    Log in to myGC to review your award package, pending requirements, and any updates that may affect your financial aid totals. 

  • FAFSA becomes available – October 1st  
  • Galveston College FAFSA Priority Deadlines and the suggested deadline to report gift aid 
    • Fall - June 9 
    • Spring - November 9 
    • Summer - March 30 
  • Texas State Financial Aid Deadline 
    • Priority Deadline: February 15th for all state programs 
  • The last day to submit the FAFSA® every year is June 30th 
    • Fall and Spring – Open March 1st and close April 15th  
    • Spring Only – Open October 1st and close November 21st  

  • Apply Early 
  • Submit All Required Documents Promptly 
  • Apply for Scholarships Every Year 
  • Maintain Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) 
  • Report All Outside Scholarships 
  • Reapply Annually and Stay Informed 

  • Notify the Financial Aid Office of All Scholarships and Resources 
  • Avoid Dropping or Withdrawing from Classes 
  • Monitor Your Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) 
  • Limit Changes to Program or Degree Plans 
  • Avoid Repeating Courses Unnecessarily 
  • Keep FAFSA Information Up to Date 
  • Respond Quickly to Financial Aid Communications
